Environmental Promise

Here at Almond Court Motel in Alexandra, we believe in protecting the beautiful environment of Central Otago and want to ensure that your children and grandchildren can visit and enjoy it as well. To this end we have developed an environmental plan and welcome your support for this initiative.

Most of our customers want to help, so we invite you to join with us by enjoying our hospitality and understanding our environmental policy which is based on a commitment to improving our environmental performance across all areas of our business practice and in the service we offer. This sustainability will be an ongoing journey which will improve with time. In order to achieve this we pledge the following:

•We offer a towel and linen exchange system which ensures you're helping the environment by reducing energy consumption and water usage.
•We offer recycling bins in all units to reduce the amount of recyclables going to the landfill, there are also larger recycle bins in the rubbish collection area beside the office for your use.
•We compost organic waste for use in our vege garden and welcome you to do the same.
•Environmentally friendly light bulbs have been installed into 70% of our business with the intention of increasing that to 100% by July 2010, as bulbs need replacing.
•Our power is provided by renewable generation resources.
•We use water efficient washing machines.
•We use non-toxic and biodegradable cleaning products.
•All our signage and driveway lighting is operated by daylight sensors and timers and uses environmentally friendly bulbs.
•Where possible we buy locally, organically and in bulk, for the goods used in our continental and cooked breakfasts and we avoid prepackaged single serve goods.
•Proper maintenance and vigilant checks ensure the minimum amount of chemicals are used to keep our Solar Heated Swimming Pool in top condition.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of all our environmentally friendly practices it is just intended as a simple overview to show you some of the many ways we are trying to protect the beautiful land we live in, Central Otago.
